TEHRAN- Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi has called elections a "unique opportunity" for the nation to form a strong parliament.

Vahidi made the remarks on Wednesday on the sidelines of cabinet meeting. He said that the nation can build a powerful and influential parliament through elections.

The minister added that the closer the elections get, the more attention is paid to them. He also said that the "valuable words and efforts of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in promoting broad participation in the elections have created good hopes and moves."

Vahidi expressed hope for the participation of all political factions in the elections and high voter turnout.

Regarding border security, Vahidi said that it has always been a "major concern" for Iran. He added that due to the remoteness of some areas in southeastern Iran, terrorists sometimes exploit this and that Iran expects its neighbors to cooperate in taking serious action against them.

On the latest developments regarding the terrorist attack on the police station in Rask, Vahidi said that Iran is determined to "eliminate this severe insecurity that occasionally occurs at the borders."

He added that serious efforts have been made in this regard.

Vahidi also clarified that Iran and Pakistan have been engaged in serious discussions on the matter.

The terrorist attack on the police outpost in southeastern Iran on December 15 resulted in the brutal murder of 11 police officers and injured at least six others.

The attack took place at around 2 AM local time in Rask County, located in the southern part of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.
